Child Selection

Child Selection Criteria

Each chapter of Dreams Take Flight uses the same basic criteria for selecting children.
Here in Atlantic Canada, a child selected to take part in Dreams Take Flight MUST meet each & every one of the following criteria:

√       Is between ages 7 to 12

√       Is of an “economic” disadvantage (meaning their life  circumstances dictate a visit to Disney now, or anytime in the future to be very unlikely)

√       Has never visited a Disney theme park before

√       Is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

√       Has (or is able to obtain) a valid birth certificate or passport

√       Is able to legally enter the United States

√       Other special needs children who meet the above criteria are also considered; HOWEVER they must have medical documentation supporting their capability of handling such a long and physically- exhausting day (over 20 hours).

Every year, we work with various agencies & organizations who refer children to us for the flight.

Those children who meet the specific criteria and who would benefit most from the program are selected to participate.

If you know of a child who would benefit from our program and meets all the criteria, you can submit his or her name by providing a written letter describing HOW the child meets each of the criteria, along with two references.

Applications MUST be received in writing, no later than November 1st.

Emails and phone calls will not be accepted.
